After 15 years of production director Roger Hall and producer Harrison Stafford (Groundation) are fundraising to finally release their monumental documentary on the history of Jamaica, reggae music, and the Rastafari movement told by the singers and musicians who brought it to the world. “Holding On To Jah” features legends like Ras Michael, Israel Vibration, the Abyssinians, Culture, URoy, IJahman, Pablo Moses, Sugar Minott, the Congos, Winston McAnuff, etc. telling their story of how a poor, third world Nation brought the world a new spiritual movement who’s gospel was written in the music.
The campaign is to raise $25,000 to cover licensing costs. There are 34 songs featured in the film and they are a crucial part of the story; songs from Bob Marley, Peter Tosh, Joe Higgs, Israel Vibration, the Abyssinians, etc. Each song requires two rights, the publishing synch rights to put the music to a video, and the master recording rights to use the song off the record. These costs could be upward of $1,000 to contract and you cannot legal make money from a film until these rights are secured.
